The Cardoso Island State Park is an Integral Protection Convervation Unit of the Atlantic Rainforest Southest Reserves World Heritage Site and part of the Atlantic Forest Biosphere Reserve in the state of Sao Paulo and can be accessed from the colonial town of Cananeia. Among particularly attractive beaches are Pereirinha, Prainha, Lages, Camboriú, Ipanema and Bica. Near the three last-mentioned beaches are the trails to the waterfalls. To arrive in the island you need take a boat trip from Cananeia. The trip can take 3 hours to Maruja, but there will be fast boats (they call voadeiras) that can make the way in just 1 hour. In my opinion, if is your first time, you need take the regular big boat, the experience works!
There is two ways to get in Cananeia, you can take a plain until São Paulo, that’s 187 miles from or Curtiba (The Parana state capital, that soon I will talk about), that’s just 5 miles near. In the booth you need take a bus or rent a car, but is good remember that you’ll need find a place to pay-park your car in Cananeia. There are regular buses everyday and they`ll stop in front of the pier that the boat will be. Be sure before you going the boats and buses time, since in the vacations time the schedule will be more flexible than during the year, where the boats just leave in the morning twice per week.
Buses:
São Paulo to Cananeia: Viacão Intersul (intersul-transporte.com.br)
Curitiba to Cananeia: Expresso Princesa dos Campos (www.princesadoscampos.com.br) and after Registro City, you need take the Viacão Intersul buses to get in Cananeia.
